From Harvest to Plate: A Mayan Experience From Thompson Playa del Carmen

In Dine, Playa del Carmen & Tulum, Stay by Suzanne Koch

Teaming up with Mexico Tropical, Thompson Playa del Carmen is now offering guests the chance to dive into local Mayan culture and indulge in authentic flavors. The new experience takes guests to meet a local and his family at their home in Nuevo Durango who will then guide guests to a local orchard—with 100-percent organic seasonal fresh veggies, fruits and herbs—to learn about the importance and impact the local produce has on the Mayan community. Afterwards, guests will get the opportunity to cook and prepare their lunch with the family under a shaded Chicozapote tree in a jungle setting.

For foodies and culture-vultures, this experience hits all the high notes from learning to make corn tortillas from scratch and preparing ‘Ha’ Sikil P’ak’ (pumpkin seed sauce) to smelling the aromatic smoke coming from the chechén firewood in between sips of wine.

Guests who book at least two nights at Thompson Playa del Carmen will receive a $50 credit towards this experience.

Private round trip transportation, a private culinary host, ingredients, beverages (including cocktails and wine), cooking ware and an apron and notebook are all included.
