Green School Tulum to be Mexico’s First Sustainable School

In Live, Playa del Carmen & Tulum by Christina Silvestri

Home to stunning beaches, a biosphere reserve and amazingly well-preserved Mayan ruins, Tulum is well-known for its eco-friendly and sustainable living.

Green School Tulum will be a welcome addition to the community as Mexico’s very first sustainable school. The bilingual school will stand strong at the heart of a holistic residential project called Selvazamá within the lush jungle of Tulum, only a couple of miles away from the sparkling Caribbean beaches.

Currently under construction, Green School Tulum will be built from low-impact materials, such as bamboo and locally-sourced woods and materials, as well as incorporating permaculture principles into its operation and design.

The school’s student-led approach will offer a well-rounded and cross-disciplinary learning experience that encourages the physical, emotional, intellectual and expressive development of every child. Classes will include courses on math, science, humanities, English, Spanish and Mayan, as well as experiential courses in entrepreneurial studies, environmental studies, arts, health and wellbeing. Tuition starts at $20,000 USD.

While Green School Tulum is slated to open in 2023, tours can be coordinated as soon as this summer, while applications are also open to prospective students.
