Los Cabos’ first Fred Couples Signature Golf Course has recently broke ground with a scheduled opening date for late 2018. The course is located inside Twin Dolphin, a 1,400-acre master-planned community that includes Maravilla Los Cabos, Montage Residences Los Cabos and Montage Los Cabos resort.
“We want this course to be a course that all players enjoy. It will vary in length with multiple sets of tees, undulating greens, dramatic elevations changes, impeccable fairways and natural bunkering,” said Fred Couples.
Keeping in line with Twin Dolphin’s eco-friendly design, the course has made it a point to keep the surrounding native landscaping intact after the course is built by grading from the center lines out to the perimeter of each golf hole. A buffer will be left on the perimeter of each hole to protect the edges and golf and landscape irrigation will utilize non-potable water from on-site desalination and wastewater treatment facilities.
“We were meticulous in our mission to honor our surroundings. We’re building around the land, using local materials whenever possible and integrating and preserving natural features such as rock outcroppings, mature flora and landforms like arroyos in the golf routing,” said Todd Eckenrode, of Origins Golf Design, who Couples is working with.
The course will feature ocean views from every hole, desert and ocean vistas, canyon-like arroyos and local flora to celebrate the region’s beauty. A full practice range will include individual hitting stations with personalized laser-measured yardages to target greens, along with player amenities, state-of-the-art instruction video and computer systems. Guests will also be able to take advantage of practice chipping areas, practice putting greens, a full-service clubhouse, on-course amenities, on-course service staff and a state-of-the-art maintenance facility.
“The Twin Dolphin Golf Club will reinvent the typical golf experience with unexpected amenities at every turn,” said Neil Johnson, director of residential real estate, Ohana Real Estate Investors. “We are bringing the clubhouse experience onto the course and changing the way amenities are experienced. On-course amenities will include food and drink options that will be available in new and very exciting concepts offering indoor-outdoor dining and relaxation areas. The buildings will have a residential feel and will be something that people who are not even playing golf will want to tag along and experience.”
The course will be available to residential owners within the Twin Dolphin community as well as to guests of Montage Los Cabos.
