We say it every year: we want to travel more. Yet, so often we don’t. Sure, we visit nearby cities and may even make the occasional weekend trip to the closest beach once in awhile, but exploring exotic locations around the world rarely seem to be scribbled on our calendars. Instead they stay stuck on our bucket lists that hardly get touched. Make this year the year you get up and step out into the world. Here’s some tips to help you go and discover a new land and live in a different culture, if only for a week.
Pick a Destination
There’s thousands of places to travel to. Odds are there’s a few cities you’ve always had in mind or always been curious about. Read up on them and discover everything there is to do and see. Does one stand out? We’re partial to Mexico, but perhaps the rain forests of Brazil have caught your eye, or the bustling streets of London. Pick one and focus on it.
Set a Goal
Traveling expenses can add up quick and saving for them can be daunting and hopeless. Stacking up enough money for a decent trip is worth it but patience is key. Saving for a dream trip doesn’t happen in a few weeks or even in a few months. Instead of promising yourself an exotic trip in 2019, shoot for 2020 and spend this year saving. This will give you more time to save, plan and avoid stress. Making realistic goals instead of rushed ones will grant you a greater chance of success.
Do Your Research
While impulse traveling can be exhilarating and adventurous, it can also be costly and risky. Doing your research beforehand will open your eyes to inside tips, deals and must-see and do adventures. Planning ahead of time will also save you lots of valuable time that can be spent exploring instead of figuring out the local transport system.
To help keep you motivated while saving and waiting, keep inspired with travel blogs and social media accounts. Breathtaking photos can sometimes be just enough to remind you why you’re saving. Read up on the travels of others and stay driven to reach your dream destination.
