Grand Velas Debuting in Los Cabos

In Los Cabos, Stay by Suzanne Koch

Set to open in November is the $150 million Grand Velas Los Cabos, the fifth property in the Velas Resorts collection. The design of the Los Cabos resort is a mix of contemporary Mexican with a hint of traditional Mexican architecture. Ricardo Elias, the architectural designer behind the Grand Velas Resorts in the Riviera Maya and Riviera Nayarit, brought his work to the new Cabo resort while the interior can be attributed to architects Roberto Elias and Ernesto Vela and interior designer Melin Castro. Upon arrival, guests will be greeted in the three-story-high, open-air grand entrance that sits 300 feet above sea level.

The crescent-shaped resort will be located between Cabo San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo and will offer a staff ratio of 3 to 1. The accommodations are 306 stunning ocean-view suites ranging in size from 1,180 square-feet to 3,412 square feet. The spacious suites will all include ocean views, private terraces with sitting area and plunge pool, separate living area sofa, and an expansive bathroom with Jacuzzi and built-in shower. A unique bonus is the full bottle of artisanal Mezcal made exclusively for the resort that awaits thirsty guests in each suite. Book a Governor or Presidential Suite and enjoy a bottle of the finest Ensenada wine. The resort will also have six two-level Wellness Suites for the fitness-minded traveler. Each suite has double height lofted ceilings with an assortment of fitness amenities. The second level of each suite will feature a juice bar with a wide selection of juices and healthy beverages.

The two-level, 19,375-square-foot spa will be just as impressive as the suites. With 20 treatments rooms, the spa will also have hydrotherapy facilities with dry saunas, cold plunge pools, vitality pools, whirlpools, herbal steam rooms with color-therapy, clay and ice rooms and experience showers. A beauty salon, spa boutique, Life Fitness center and rooftop garden are also available.

In addition to boasting an extensive beverage and wine program, the dining choices at the resort will highlight a variety of worldly cuisine in its five restaurants. Cocina de Autor will be led by a renowned chef, Frida will offer Mexican fare, Piaf will serve up French specials, Lucca will bring Italy to the Baja and Azul will serve international cuisine in a casual, open-air setting with stunning beach views. For the thirsty travelers, three bars will be on-site: Sky Bar, Bistro Bar and Koi Sports Bar and Dancing Lounge, with the latter featuring a dance floor, DJ and marble bar.

Lounge during the day at one of the resort’s three heated infinity-edge pools, stay active in yoga, Pilates or other recreational activities offered at the resort or browse the resort’s gallery of contemporary art. A Kids’ Club and Teens’ Club are also both available and offer a variety of activities. The resort will also feature one of the largest and most functional convention centers with 16,370 square feet of flexible event space.

Keep your eyes open for dining events, a coffee bar, food experiences, premium liquor brands, a cigar room and custom innovative cocktails, all of which are being planned for the resort.
