Exceptional golf courses designed by the some of the sport’s top legends coupled with the unique mountain-desert-ocean environment have helped Los Cabos in being named the 2017 Latin America & Caribbean Golf Destination of the Year by The International Association of Golf Tour Operators (IAGTO). With more than a dozen layouts designed by the likes of Jack Nicklaus, Tom Fazio, Greg Normal, Robert Trent Jones Jr. and Tiger Woods, the award comes as little surprise. In fact, GOLF Magazine’s “Top 100 Courses in the World” include two Cabo courses while seven of the top 11 courses in Mexico on Golf Digest’s “Planet Golf” report feature Cabo courses.

Esteban Toledo, a multiple winner on the PGA Champions Tour, serves as the official golf ambassador for the Los Cabos Tourism Board. “As a touring professional, I’ve been privileged to play all the top courses throughout North America,” said Toledo, a native of Mexicali, Mexico. “For beauty, challenge and variety, the golf courses in Los Cabos are in a class of their own.”

And Toledo is not the only one who agrees. Approximately 180,000 rounds of golf are played each year in the destination and its surplus of above-par courses combined with its family-friendly lifestyle, five-star resorts and outdoor activities make Cabo an irresistible destination even without a club in hand.

“We are delighted to accept this prestigious award from the world’s leading association of golf travel providers,” said Rodrigo Esponda Cascajares, Managing Director of the Los Cabos Tourism Board. “Dating back to the early 1990s, we have welcomed some of the most spectacular golf facilities in the world. The recent addition of several outstanding newcomers has raised the bar of excellence and taken the Los Cabos golf scene to the next level.”

The International Association of Golf Tour Operators is a global trade association of the golf tourism industry. Its tour operators generate more than 85 percent of the world’s golf vacations. The 2017 awards were selected by its nearly 600 members from 61 different countries. Judges nominated the best golf destinations based on the different experiences of their customers as well as criteria such as customer satisfaction, quality of golf courses and accommodations, price, professional conduct of suppliers, support of the local tourism industry and accessibility of tee times.
