Say hello to Naum, the Mayan-inspired spa at Andaz Mayakoba Resort Riviera Maya. Spread out over 10,000 square feet, the on-property Naum Spa is home to six open-air treatment cabins and two hydrotherapy areas where guests can enjoy a customized menu of refreshing services, many of which incorporate indigenous Mayan methods. A 24-hour state-of-the-art gym, two outdoor pools, yoga, meditation and beauty services upon request are also offered.
Named after the Mayan God of consciousness and mind, Naum features treatments, called Naum Rituals, which were created and inspired by native Mayan traditions known as rituals that incorporate mind, body and spirit. Designed to pay homage to oneself and the Mayan Gods, the Naum Rituals allow guests the opportunity to select an area of wellness to focus on including clarity (tsoolik), rest (he’lel), strength (muuk’) or connection (molcintah). Inspired by nature’s balance of the number three with a beginning, middle and end, each ritual is a three-part experience featuring a Mayan Time of Reflection, the treatment itself and a Mayan Celebration to conclude.
Many rituals are based on different Mayan culture traditions. For example, body rituals were commonly used for preparation of marriage, battle or to celebrate the changing seasons while massage rituals were considered healing arts. Guests can choose from a 75-, 90- or 120-minute experience starting at $190. The longer the session, the more elements are added. Take a look at some of the offered rituals below.

Naum Ritual of Massage: A customized spa experience with options like hot stones, bespoke aromatherapy blends, Swedish or deep tissue
So how to choose? Hosts and wellness therapists help to fully customize each experience, from the treatment to the products used. Through identifying wellness intention, treatment focus and ingredients, therapists are able to select the best ritual. To take the customization to the next level, guests are also able to participate in an interactive aromatherapy bar where they can design their own scent and products.
