Now more than 70% complete, the highly-anticipated opening of the brand-new Tulum International Airport in Quintana Roo will now connect even more cities across Mexico and North America to the Mexican Caribbean resort destination.

Slated to be operational in December 2023, select flights are now able to be booked. The Tulum airport is expected to offer an extensive range of flight routes, connecting this slice of paradise in the Mexican Caribbean to major hubs across Mexico, the United States and Canada.

Notably, domestic airlines VivaAerobus and Aeroméxico will serve a variety of destinations, including:

  • Tijuana
  • Guadalajara
  • Aguascalientes
  • Toronto
  • San Francisco
  • Chicago
  • Mexico City
  • State of Mexico (AIFA)
  • Guadalajara
  • Tijuana
  • Monterrey

Furthermore, routes from major U.S. cities, like Austin, New York City and Miami will be introduced, along with anticipated additions from Los Angeles, Dallas, Houston and Phoenix in the first half of 2024.

Officially designated as “Aeropuerto Internacional Felipe Carrillo Puerto,” the Tulum’s airport’s prime location is conveniently central and will provide relief to the neighboring Cancún airport, which currently serves as the main gateway to the Mexican Caribbean. The Tulum airport is a key part of the extensive infrastructure strategy spearheaded by the administration of Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador in Southeast Mexico, with investments totaling over 16 billion pesos.

Beyond its infrastructural significance, the new airport will spur economic growth in the local community and increase Tulum’s accessibility for both local and global travelers. Boasting a comprehensive initial flight roster and an eagerly awaited launch date, the new Tulum International Airport is poised to serve as a vital access point for tourists and a significant economic catalyst for the area.
