Haramara Retreat: The Ultimate Yoga Escape

In Play, Puerto Vallarta, Stay by Suzanne Koch

Snuggled into the jungles of the up-and-coming destination of Sayulita, Haramara Retreat is a treetop locale that fulfills any wellness-inspired vacation you’re longing to take. Meaning “Mother Sea” in the native Huichol Indian language, Haramara is consistently offering yoga and wellness retreats for those looking to escape and recharge. But Haramara’s true lure are its group retreats. Hosting one or two groups at a time, with 10 to as many as 50 guests, Haramara is ideal for those looking to do it their own way and host their own getaway.

Accommodations at Haramara include 16 chic hand-built cabanas with thatched roofs, sheer curtains, private hammocks and their own individually designed private bathroom. Oil lamps and candles add to the barefoot luxury of the rooms and all offer views of the ocean and jungle. For larger groups, a non-coed dormitory is available that can accommodate up to 8 guests.

When it’s time to zen out, Haramara has two different handbuilt yoga shalas with high roofs and hardwood floors. The two shalas are both perfectly positioned to take advantage of their own expansive view. The fully open-air Sunrise Shala faces north and east and is located at the top of the property with views of the Pacific Ocean, jungle and Sierra Madre Mountains. Located in the middle of the property is the Sunset Shala which sits on a promontory and faces primarily west with views of the Pacific Ocean and coastline.

For optimal views, the open-air dining room is situated near the top of the property facing west with jungle and ocean views plus an outdoor dining terrace that sits atop the trees. Serving breakfast, lunch and dinner, all meals are vegetarian based with tofu, fish or seafood included once a day. A therapeutic wellness center near the ocean offers guests a variety of massage styles and a private beach and pool is perfect for sun-soaking opportunities.

For those looking to get away on their own, guests can choose from a basic package that includes a cabana and two meals a day or a sampler package which starts off at three nights and includes 2 meals daily, airport transportation, two yoga classes, a 60-minute massage and a $60 onsite credit.
