As we all know pitching around the green can be perplexing off the flattest of lies, not to mention the uneven ones! There are four lies you must master in order to have a complete short game. In this series we’ll cover the uphill lie, the downhill lie, the uphill Sidehill lie and the downhill Sidehill lie. Understanding how the ball will react off these lies will make your life much easier!
Pitching off Slopes Around the Green: The Uphill Lie
When you set your shoulders with the slope, you will add loft to the clubface and thus, you will have to swing harder to make the ball go further, however it will land softer. When you have some room to the pin, I would suggest leaning your spine into the slope slightly. This will help you flatten the ball’s flight so you won’t have to work so hard to get the ball to the pin.
