Planning a destination wedding in Mexico? Regardless of whether you tie the knot on a stunning Mexican beach or in a historic magical town, planning a wedding away from home is both exciting and logistically challenging. However, with a little extra organization and the following expert-recommended tips, you’ll be able to plan your dreamy Mexican wedding with ease.

9 – 12 Months Before The Big Day

  • Determine your budget
  • Choose your magical destination
  • Travel to your chosen destination to scout venues/resorts, meet with wedding coordinators and other vendors, etc.
  • Hire a professional wedding planner that specializes in destination weddings
  • Settle on a wedding date and reserve your wedding venue
  • Book a photographer – the best ones are booked quickly!
  • Start working on your guest list
  • Bride: Shop for your wedding dress 

6 – 9 Months Before The Big Day

  • Work with your wedding planner to book all vendors
  • Consult with your wedding planner regarding guest accommodation
  • Launch your wedding website to keep guests informed
  • Send SAVE THE DATE announcements to all your guests
  • Create a gift registry, or better yet, consider a honeymoon registry!

4 – 6 Months Before The Big Day

  • Obtain your passports
  • Purchase wedding rings
  • Finalize the entire wedding party’s attire
  • Book and confirm travel arrangements
  • Confirm details with all vendors
  • Order your wedding invitations
  • Book a hairstylist and makeup artist

2 – 3 Months Before The Big Day:

  • Send invitations
  • Schedule menu and cake tastings with venue, if possible
  • Order party favors and décor
  • Gather all necessary paperwork and documents
  • Ship all wedding-day items to the venue
  • Create a seating chart
  • Schedule a final dress fitting

When you arrive at your destination:

  • Finalize seating charts, itineraries and other details with your planner
  • Apply for a wedding license
  • Arrange for required on-site blood tests
  • Do a rehearsal at the ceremony site and inspect ceremony/reception sites
  • Assemble welcome bags and arrange to have them delivered to your guests
  • Have a hair and makeup trial prior to the wedding
  • Have your wedding attire pressed/steamed to smooth out any wrinkles
  • Book a manicure and pedicure for the day before the wedding
