Experience the Secluded Side of Cancun, at NIZUC Resort & Spa

In Cancún, Stay by Suzanne Koch

Luxury might be an overused word when it comes to coastal, Mexican resorts but that’s usually because they’re worthy of the prestigious classification. But if there is ever a time to use this word in relation to a resort, it’s when talking about NIZUC Resort & Spa, the exotic Cancun escape fit for true royalty. This Riviera Maya hotel sits secluded in complete paradisal form, in the area of Punta Nizuc. Away from the loud partying typically associated with Cancun, the 29-acre NIZUC sits on the tip of a peninsula and will make you feel like you stumbled across a hidden Mayan jewel.

Located in an area where Mayans once gathered to worship, the upscale resort maintains the exotic theme throughout it’s decor and architecture. The man in charge of both, Mexican architect, Alejandro Escudero replicated Mayan hieroglyphics and a Malinalco mural with the help of Mexico City’s National Museum of Anthropology. In addition to authenticity, the resort creates a calming ambiance with dark wood contrasting with the white sand and bright views of crystal blue waters through large and boxy windows. Lush, green foliage surrounds the resort and completes the modern, tropical feel.

Of the 274 rooms, ocean suites, residence suites and garden pool villas make up the three types available to guests, with the majority of them boasting calming, ocean views. Private pools, terraces, outdoor showers and free-standing tubs are just a few of the featured amenities.

When hunger strikes (or even when it doesn’t), six a la carte dining options, each with its own distinctive experience, are available for guests to indulge. And like most ultra-luxurious resorts, the dining is just as spectacular as the accommodations. In fact, Forbes recently featured Executive Chef Vincent Wallez, who oversees the culinary sector of the resort, whose goal is “to create the best culinary team in Mexico.” Wallez has achieved success thus far, with NIZUC dining becoming not only a favorite among travelers but also with local residents.

The 30,000 square-foot NIZUC Spa by ESPA is another highlight of the resort offering Mayan-inspired treatments complete with garden and ocean views.
