The Art of Pez Gordo Gallery

In Los Cabos, Play by Suzanne Koch

The art scene in San Jose del Cabo has grown considerably over the past years with an abundance of galleries, events and creative minds emerging everywhere. An assortment of inspiration and a palate for all tastes, Pez Gordo Gallery and its founder Dana Lieb, has something for everyone.

A lifelong lover of art, Dana Lieb grew up appreciating all forms of the creative world. Dana spent her college years studying art and eventually earned both an MBA and MFA. As a frequent visitor to Cabo on weekend getaway trips, she noticed the city’s need for an art gallery that featured a mix of artists rather than just one. As a result, Dana opened the doors to Pez Gordo Gallery and even led the start of the popular art walk in downtown San Jose.

Opening in 1999, the gallery, now located at The Shoppes at Palmilla, is an eclectic collection of art forms showcasing a wide variety of more than 40 artists. Growing up, Dana’s love for art spread across all types of expressions and as a result her gallery today reflects that, offering a diverse mix of pieces. The gallery features varying techniques like oil and acrylic, encaustic, collage, photography and more. While Dana doesn’t prefer one technique over another, she enjoys installation art the most as it’s something not easily found in Cabo.

As a buyer, clients can expect a high level of quality, both in the art pieces and customer service. Dana takes the time to identify each client’s taste, locating the perfect piece to satisfy what they’re looking for. She enjoys showing the depth of Mexican art and breaking the typical stereotype that surrounds it of simply being desert and cacti. See for yourself; stop into the gallery to experience the explosion of surprising inspiration that fills Pez Gordo.
