Every day, Liga MAC works full-time to help low-income families in the San José del Cabo area by providing them with basic necessities. Liga MAC, a volunteer-based organization, focuses on three areas of needs: education, medical assistance and basic needs and works to assist families in need in each of those areas. Through a scholarship program, medical assistance program and Despensa, a food distribution program, Liga MAC and its many volunteers are able to support hundreds of families throughout the year. Incorporated in March 2000, Liga MAC is a Mexican registered charity consisting of mostly Mexican, American and Canadian (MAC) volunteers, but welcome all nationalities to help make a difference in the lives of those in need.
While Liga MAC strives daily to lend a helping hand (mano con mano) to countless families and individuals, during the holiday season they work a little harder, putting smiles on children’s faces all over the city. Every year, during the first week of December, Liga MAC holds its annual Christmas fiesta, a festive night of food, entertainment and spiritious giving. The popular event, which serves to be the kick off for the holiday season, entails a toy drive that benefits the families supported by Liga MAC. This year’s event, which took place on December 8, had a total of 450 attendees and approximately 500 toys donated and counting. While the event has passed, you can still make a child’s day by donating toys to the organization. Non-battery operated toys for children 1-12 years of age will be accepted every Friday until the Posada Fiesta Day (December 23) at Liga MAC’s booth at the The Shoppes at Palmilla farmer’s market from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The Shoppes at Palmilla support many charitable causes throughout the Baja, but with so much holiday cheer and smiling faces, this event brews a little more excitement every year.
Be a part of the excitement now and the rest of the year. To donate, or to read more about Liga MAC, visit their website: www.ligamac.org
