Tee Up and Indulge at the Mayakoba Masters of Food, Wine and Golf

In Dine, Play, Playa del Carmen & Tulum, Stay by Suzanne Koch

On April 20, the American Express Mayakoba Masters of Food, Wine & Golf will return to paradise for its second edition of the tasty and exciting event. Set in the lush development of Mayakoba, the event will incorporate all four resorts—Andaz Mayakoba, Banyan Tree Mayakoba, Fairmont Mayakoba and Rosewood Mayakoba—into the weekend for an array of culinary activities, golf fun and more.

The event will host the Mayakoba Cup, a 36-hole stroke play competition on the 18-hole Greg Norman-designed El Camaleón course which is home to the PGA TOUR OHL Classic at Mayakoba and is unique for its sand dunes, mangroves and exclusive location. The Mayakoba Cup will feature three different categories of two ball teams with circa 120 players and will be played over two days. Players will also have the chance to “beat the pro” both days of the tournament on one of the courses par 3’s. This year’s pro guest is Mexican Golf Professional Alex Quiroz, whose played many major tours throughout his career including the PGA Tour Latinoamerica, PGA Tour Canada and the Web.com tour.

The weekend will also feature another special guest who’s left her imprint on the golf world—Lorena Ochoa. Born in Guadalajara, Ochoa was ranked the No. 1 golfer in the world at age 25 and went on to hold that title for 157 weeks in a row. She has won 129 local, national and international titles, 27 LPGA events and 83 other prizes and recognitions. She has also won two majors: 2007 RICO Women’s British Open and the 2008 Kraft Nabisco Championship.

For those looking to indulge, the weekend will play host to some of the world’s top chefs and sommeliers from many places around the world, including Australia, Argentina, Uruguay, Spain, Italy, Mexico and the U.S. Guests will be able to take part in a variety of delicious activities from cooking classes and tequila tastings to cocktail parties, chef-hosted dinners and more. Featured chefs include Richard Sandoval, Bruno Oteiza, Diane DiMeo and more. Keep reading for the weekend’s schedule.
