The Towers at Pacifica Offers Back to Nature Program

In Los Cabos, Play, Stay by Suzanne Koch

Ever since Jacques Cousteau described Cabo San Lucas as “the aquarium of the world” in the 1960s, nature lovers have flocked here to experience its unique mountain-desert-ocean environment. To showcase the region’s natural assets, The Towers at Pacifica, the deluxe “resort-within-a-resort” with 24-hour butler service, has introduced a “Back to Nature” package for the winter season that features an array of outdoor-oriented activities.

One of nature’s most spectacular shows occurs in November as hundreds of whales travel from the frigid Arctic Ocean to the warm waters surrounding the Baja Peninsula to birth and rear their young. Of the eight species that venture to Los Cabos, the most popular are the humpback whales, which routinely spout close to shore and breach from the water in fantastic leaps. From mid-December through March, whale-watching excursions depart from nearby Cabo San Lucas marina. (Butlers will take care of the arrangements). Furthermore, guests of The Towers at Pacifica can view these majestic creatures from their room balconies and various points throughout the property.

To learn more about the local flora, the Cactimundo tour teaches guests about the region’s indigenous shrubs, trees and cacti, notably the tall, multi-armed, centuries-old cardon cactus. The cart-conducted tours depart from the resort.

Among other “Back to Nature” adventures are early-morning desert hikes (watch out for lizards, roadrunners, quail, jackrabbits, red foxes, white-tailed deer, and maybe an elusive ring-tailed cat). Guests can also take a glass-bottomed boat trip to El Arco, the iconic sea arch, with stops at Lover’s Beach and the active sea lion colony nestled among the rocks at Land’s End.

Even the award-winning Armonia Spa embraces the “back to nature” theme with its organic ritual massage, which starts with a scrub of Dead Sea salt, rosemary, jojoba, and almond essential oils exfoliation, followed by a homemade oatmeal mask that leaves the body with a fresh sensation. The treatment concludes with an invigorating massage applying shea butter and geranium essential oils, neroli, and rosemary body lotion, ideal for treating muscle fatigue after more energetic nature activities.
