The Underground World of Hotel El Ganzo

In Los Cabos, Stay by Suzanne Koch

Located at the base of the Puerto Los Cabos marina in San Jose del Cabo is Hotel El Ganzo, an energetic hotel with a creative spin on a typical beach resort. While you can still find sprawling rooftop pools, fresh ceviches and fruity margaritas, its creative vibe and artistic ambience is what sets it apart from most Cabo resorts.

The 69-room beachfront hotel is a haven for music-lovers, artists and creative minds. The hotel boasts a unique feature not commonly found in hotels: an in-house recording studio. Located in “The Underground,” the state-of-the-art studio is found through a trap door in the lobby lounge’s floor and is loaded with all the necessary equipment for some serious jam sessions from top brands like Blue Microphones, Fender and Gibson. Spacious enough for an entire band and cozy enough for a solo artist, The Underground is open all day and night and is even available to rent over an extended period of time.

The hotel’s musical features are not limited to just the underground space though. Up through the trap door and into the hotel’s lobby is a venue that’s home to performers of El Ganzo Sessions, a series of complimentary, live performances. The venue space is complete with a stage and surround sound system for even the most renowned of artists. Another outlet for performers is located on The Rooftop Lounge where there is a music venue dedicated to open-air concerts by in-residence artists and a DJ booth for events and parties. Guests can also enjoy playlists throughout the hotel, curated by the in-residence artists and the hotel’s music director.

In addition to offering a recording and performing space, El Ganzo offers artists another alluring and unique feature. The hotel hosts artists from all over the world to stay and be inspired; the artist in-residence program lets creative minds use El Ganzo as their canvas and their muse. While the musically inclined head down to The Underground studio, the creative artists can take to the hotel grounds to create live installations for guests to feast their eyes on. With no restraints and rules, artists are able to construct unique masterpieces and create a vibrant and unexpected world for visitors.

Aside from all the creative aspects of Hotel El Ganzo, the hotel has many other attracting features. Accommodations overlook the Sea of Cortez and are outfitted with modern decor of rustic undertones, natural materials and wood. Guests can choose from a variety of room types with the higher-level rooms including features like patio lounge beds, glass showers, living rooms, corner terraces, Jacuzzis and more. Some of the suites are even individually-designed and decorated and will soon be the canvas of El Ganzo’s artists-in-residence.

The hotel also features a beach club, state-of-the-art Fitness Center, spa, signature golf course, waterfront lap pool and a rooftop that includes a lounge, restaurant, infinity pool, cabanas, and glass-enclosed Jacuzzi. A total of four restaurants and two bars are available to hungry patrons with choices ranging from rooftop sushi to casual, beachfront fare.
