For those who want to explore but still want the luxury of a delicious meal, Grand Velas has come to the rescue. Two of its resorts are now offering special picnic experiences that include baskets prepared by the resort chefs to tote along with you on your exotic journeys. The picnic baskets are available to pre-order 48 hours in advance and come with all the necessary items like cutlery, plates, glassware, linen napkins, a large blanket and cushions. Never sacrifice a good meal for an adventurous day again—all you need to worry about now is where to go.

Grand Velas Riviera Maya

Enjoy a “Picnic in Paradise” at the Grand Velas Riviera Maya. Complimentary to the resort’s nightly rate, this basket includes a bottle of red or white wine, four varieties of salads with house-made dressings, smoked salmon, French cheeses and charcuterie, fresh baked artisanal baguettes, and a selection of fresh roasted turkey breast, roast beef and duck terrine made from a special recipe of Michel Mustiere, Executive Chef and Maître Cuisinier de France. The basket also includes olives, capers, pickles and grapes to munch on before digging into the main meal and a sweet treat to top it off with (dessert options vary based on daily chef creations).

Casa Velas

Guests staying at Casa Velas can take their pick from three different themed picnic baskets ranging from $280-$400. These baskets roll out the red carpet (or napkin) and include live music (a live trumpeter with the Wellness Picnic), a bottle of Dom Perignon or Moet & Chandon, sparkling and still water and fresh juice.

Wellness Picnic: Includes dried and fresh fruit, nuts, a flaxseed bread sandwich with Mozzarella cheese and cherry tomato with avocado oil, salmon rolls with goat cheese, pesto tuna tartar with pine nuts, and mini lychee tarts.

English Picnic: A traditional basket with Parmesan, Swiss, Edam, Camembert, Brie, and Blue cheeses and charcuterie; homemade baguettes; fried Chilean sea bass; caviar; salmon and tuna tartar; fruit; and blackberry Clafoutis.

Vegan Basket: Includes cabbage wrapped vegetables, fruit, endives with chickpea mousse, lentils with pineapple, strawberry sushi, beets, cilantro beans, orange tapioca pudding and apricot rice pudding.
