Extravagant Wellness Suites and Spa to Debut at Grand Velas Los Cabos

In Los Cabos, Play, Stay by Suzanne Koch

Grand Velas Riviera Maya and Grand Velas Riviera Nayarit have both received high praise for their tranquil spas and innovative treatments; Riviera Maya has been voted “Best Spa in the World” by Virtuoso, and Riviera Nayarit has racked up multiple Condé Nast Johansens’ Most Excellent Spa Hotel awards. With Grand Velas on the verge of opening its doors to its new Los Cabos resort, wellness-enthusiasts can add the Baja to their list of must-visit spa destinations.

The new spa at Grand Velas Los Cabos—which will open later this year along with the resort—will be a playground for health nuts and relaxation-seekers. With 16 treatment rooms, the two-level, 35,000-square-foot spa will not only feature more than 20 different treatments on its menu, but will also include some of the most popular treatments from its sister properties in Riviera Maya and Nayarit with many of them incorporating the Blue Agave, a plant native to Mexico and popular for its ancestral healing benefits during pre-Columbian times.

Recipients of treatments 50 minutes or longer will get an extra dose of wellness prior to their treatment with a seven-step water journey that even includes a spa valet to guide and help guests get the most out of the experience. The journey features a eucalyptus-scented steam room with chromotherapy, polar pool, aromatherapy sensory shower, sauna, Jacuzzi and multi-sensory pool. The central pool will relax even the most stressed individual with its bubble beds, carved-stone chaises with jets, and multiple hydro elements that include powerful massaging faucets for neck and back. The journey is topped off with heated loungers with warm neck pillows, cool scented towels and cucumbers on the eyes—all before the treatment even begins.

The international spa menu was conceptualized by Diana Mestre, world-renowned spa consultant, and Josselyn De la Mora Alvarado, the spa director. The treatments celebrate age-old Mexican rituals and will be organized into categories called ceremonies. For Mexican-inspired treatments, the Ceremony of Mexico will feature a fusion of flavors, aromas and refreshing touches from traditional healers. It will include enticing treatments like the Blue Agave Candle Massage, Blue Agave Exfoliation, Tequila Cream Massage, Ancient Stone Massage and Chocolate Wrap. Other ceremonies include treatments like the K-AHA-L Massage (Ceremony of Well-Being) and the 120-minute Organic Agave Ritual (Ceremony of Grand Velas).

  • Ceremony of Mexico: Traditional healers
  • Light Ceremony: Facials
  • Sand Ceremony of Sun & Sea: Body treatments inspired by the earth, sky and sea
  • Ceremony of Well-Being: Restoring massages
  • Ceremony of Grand Velas: Longer rituals
  • Ceremony of Yaakunah: Couple treatments
