Daniela Califa: The Art of Fine Jewelry

In Architecture & Design by Regina García

It has been 10 years now since Daniela Califa started her journey in the jewelry industry. After studying at the GIA (Gemological Institute of America), she decided to create pieces that could reflect her own passion for precious stones and fine accessories. We had the opportunity to chat with the Mexican entrepreneur and get some advises to follow when jewelry shopping.

1.- When did you start your own brand?
I’ve been working in jewelry for more than 10 years now, but it was 3 years ago that I decided to start my own brand. It’s been quite a journey, the learning process, the relationship with suppliers, forming my own team, but at the end, it’s all worth it.

2.- What’s your favorite gemstone and why?
Emeralds, they are so unique and rare, every emerald has its own magic and a special color that captivates me all the time.

3.- What’s the most rewarding part of creating jewelry pieces?
To buy the gemstones and start imagining what would I do with them. The creative process in which I immerge myself with each stone, is as priceless as the reactions when clients get their dreamt pieces.

4.- What’s the most challenging part of designing engagement rings?
I would say following the client’s wishes without compromising design or quality. From the very beginning, I explain all about diamonds to each client. help them pick the correct diamond based on how much they want to spend, followed by the design which will help bring out the best of each diamond.

5.- What would be the best advice you can give a groom who is about to choose an engagement ring?
To take advice from a jeweler that they trust, and avoid getting scammed or paying more than they should for the ring.

6.- What makes Daniela Califa Jewelry special?
I think that my passion for jewelry makes the brand so special, I like talking to the clients and getting to know them a little to help them choose the correct piece of jewelry.

7.- Are your gemstones ethically sourced?
After a long road I’ve known a lot of suppliers from around the world and I trust them but to be honest it’s quite difficult to trace the gemstone from mine to market, because they are usually mined, cut, and sold in different countries.

8.- What are your plans for the brand in the future?
Right now we’re working in two projects that will come out soon. Also, we’re focusing on expanding our selling points in order to reach a broader market.

Take a look at their pieces here.
