Say ‘I Do’ in the Most Breathtaking Way

In Los Cabos, Play by Suzanne Koch

Nowadays, people are looking for not only extravagant destinations for their special day, but for unique ways to tie the knot. Over-the-top venues, big-name bands, life-size cakes and extreme party favors are just some of the ways couples are celebrating their ‘I do’s.’ With Mexico being one of the top wedding destinations, it’s no wonder that the sandy Baja has seen some pretty creative things. And for those in dire need of an adventurous wedding, Bahia Hotel & Beach Club in the hip Medano Beach district is offering up a breathtaking (literally) way to say ‘I do.’

For the first time in Los Cabos, love birds can join in holy matrimony in an underwater wedding ceremony. The hotel has teamed up with Nautilus Dive Tech to give couples the chance to dive right in to married life. For $1,955 (extra fee for non-certified divers), two divers are provided with all necessary equipment—including the minister! Pool training and a rehearsal-dive prep the couple for the real thing, which takes play at the Bay of Cabo San Lucas.

Worried about getting your words out? Underwater slates are used for communication and fear not, the ceremony will not be without all the fancy extras either. The dive also includes an underwater arbor, railings, decor, bouquet and boutonniere, bow tie, vale, garter, clam shell rings and three underwater photos. Once on dry land, the couple will enjoy bottles of champagne and orange juice to toast to their dive, and a breakfast box by Bar Esquina.

If the memory of the dive is not quite enough to suffice, couples can take advantage of underwater photo and video packages, an extra tank for commemorative dive, additional food and drinks on board, take-home slates and even an after wedding party boat with music and entertainment. Couples can also add extra divers to the ceremony or guests on board as well, for a fee.
